2022 Hybrid Summer Symposium Series

We are pleased to announce that our annual Summer Symposium will be hybrid for 2022!  This year you will notice we have structured the Symposium as a series of instructional modules, experiences, and events—allowing you to register for as few or as many as you wish. Those registering for all events in the series will receive a discounted rate. All times are Hawaii Standard Time (HST). Below you will find a description of each event followed by ticketing and registration information.

Intro to p4c Hawaii

July 18-21th | 10am-12:30pm | $250

Participants will actively engage in 4 sessions that introduce the theory and practice of p4c Hawaii:
  1. Building A Community of Inquiry In this session participants will begin the process of creating an intellectually safe community of inquiry by creating a virtual Community Ball. A hallmark strategy of p4cHI, the Community Ball is used for building relationships among participants, facilitating dialogue, and mediating turn taking during inquiry.
  2. Intellectual Safety In this session, participants will engage in activities used to introduce and develop the concept and understanding of Intellectual Safety.
  3. A Philosopher’s Pedagogy Participants will be introduced to the Philosopher’s Pedagogy, including the six commitments made by successful p4cHI practitioners. This session will include multimedia presentations and the opportunity for participants to engage in a large group Plain Vanilla philosophical inquiry.
  4. Plain Vanilla “Plain Vanilla” is the “flagship” philosophical inquiry framework of p4c Hawai‘i where participants engage with a stimulus, generate questions, vote on the question/wondering they want to pursue, using a set of assessment criteria to judge the progress of their community and inquiry.
